Celebrating 20 years of creativity!

2018 is a very important year for us here at ERGANI weaving workshop: we are celebrating 20 years! It is really amazing how fast time has gone by. And how much we have done over the years …  We bought our first loom, we started with Vangelis to prepare the space that housed the first workshop, our 5 children grew up there, we moved onto a bigger space, we made seminars, collaborations, we had and still have a lot of support from friends and our families, ideas were born, new projects are coming.  We would like to share with you all of that. That’s why every month there will be a special tribute on the blog to all those who made the 20 years so much fun.

Join us in celebrating the ERGANI workshop’s anniversary throughout the year: Follow us on Facebook and on Instagram to find out more about giveaways, craft parties, special discounts and much more!

Merry Christmas!

May this festive season sparkle and shine, may all of your wishes and dreams come true, and may you feel this happiness all year round.

New season

Sadly, summer is coming to an end and we all cannot accept it. Our predictions were right because this season was indeed the best for our workshop. We came up with so many new projects and we really want you to know about them.

First and foremost we participated second year in a row to Gargalianoi Project. We met our old friends, we started cooperation’s and we learnt new things because we participated on seminars of bookbinding and doll-making. Of course, we visited the surroundings and were enchanted by the beautiful Messinia.

A new project is Nina’s House. Nina’s house belonged to our beloved grandmother. What we did was renovated the place, rebuilt it and with the help of our favorite interior designer  Anouck Brinkerink made it a cozy and vintage looking little house. The house is filled with handwoven rugs and pillows, made especially for it. We have visitors from all over the world and they all seem to love it as much as we do.

We made new collaborations with very talented new Greek designers such as My Greekgames, Neanikon, Ploos and   the Wandering workshop.

Like every year we did again a summer giveaway with the prize being a jellyfish. We had a lot of feedback with much participation.

And how the new season will be? There is a brand new warp on the loom and many meters to be woven. New ideas are coming and we are very excited to make them true.

The Evil Eye In Ergani Workshop

IMG_1633 - Αντίγραφο

The evil eye is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury.

The idea expressed by the term causes many different cultures to pursue protective measures against it. The concept and its significance vary widely among different cultures, primarily in West Asia.

IMG_1658

It was a widely extended belief among many Mediterranean and Asian tribes and cultures. Charms and decorations with eye-like symbols known as nazars, which are used to repel the evil eye are a common sight across Greece, Turkey, Albania, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco,Southern Italy (Naples), the Levant, and Afghanistan

The evil eye, known as μάτι (mati), «eye», as an apotropaic visual device, is known to have been a fixture in Greece dating back to at least the 6th century BC, when it commonly appeared on drinking vessels.Untill now in Greece, the evil eye is cast away through the process of xematiasma (ξεμάτιασμα), whereby the «healer» silently recites a secret prayer.

IMG_1649 - Αντίγραφο

We chose the evil eye symbol for our workshop’s summer window because it is a part of our cultural identity and the colors that we used- white, turquoise and blue- are the true colors of the original Greek summer.
