Celebrating 20 years of creativity!

2018 is a very important year for us here at ERGANI weaving workshop: we are celebrating 20 years! It is really amazing how fast time has gone by. And how much we have done over the years …  We bought our first loom, we started with Vangelis to prepare the space that housed the first workshop, our 5 children grew up there, we moved onto a bigger space, we made seminars, collaborations, we had and still have a lot of support from friends and our families, ideas were born, new projects are coming.  We would like to share with you all of that. That’s why every month there will be a special tribute on the blog to all those who made the 20 years so much fun.

Join us in celebrating the ERGANI workshop’s anniversary throughout the year: Follow us on Facebook and on Instagram to find out more about giveaways, craft parties, special discounts and much more!

The Evil Eye In Ergani Workshop

IMG_1633 - Αντίγραφο

The evil eye is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury.

The idea expressed by the term causes many different cultures to pursue protective measures against it. The concept and its significance vary widely among different cultures, primarily in West Asia.

IMG_1658

It was a widely extended belief among many Mediterranean and Asian tribes and cultures. Charms and decorations with eye-like symbols known as nazars, which are used to repel the evil eye are a common sight across Greece, Turkey, Albania, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco,Southern Italy (Naples), the Levant, and Afghanistan

The evil eye, known as μάτι (mati), «eye», as an apotropaic visual device, is known to have been a fixture in Greece dating back to at least the 6th century BC, when it commonly appeared on drinking vessels.Untill now in Greece, the evil eye is cast away through the process of xematiasma (ξεμάτιασμα), whereby the «healer» silently recites a secret prayer.

We chose the evil eye symbol for our workshop’s summer window because it is a part of our cultural identity and the colors that we used- white, turquoise and blue- are the true colors of the original Greek summer.

My creative space- the happy house is finished!

Here is the happy house pillow case that I blogged about it some months ago.
It is finished and now it is part of the automn decoration of the window at ERGANI workshop.

I like it very much so I decided to weave some more. Here are some photos of the weaving process:

The name of these pillow cases is «who lives in the… (tree, casttle, house, boat, cloud!)»
And you can use your imagination to make a nice story!

My creative space-playfull pillows- DROPS

Sometimes inspiration comes from the materials and not from the theme. That happened when a friend of mine gave me some samples of fabulous fabrics from Cocomat Company.

I knew I had to do something special with them.

I tried some fabric beads for a necklace (it was a gift and I have no photo) and then the idea of the playfull pillows was born.

On these pillow cases you can mix and match the colors and you can play with the drops.

They are handwoven with linen warp and weft in neutral color. The drops are sewed by hand.

More playfull pillows are coming…
